Freedom of expression, human rights and a free press are endangered in Panama. How? The country’s legal system maintains criminal defamation laws that expose every writer, social critic, journalist and citizen to persecution for investigating corruption, voicing opinions and speaking critically. We all have a stake in upholding human rights and free speech. So please join us: Come stand with us on December 22, 2016 for the sake of democracy.
Purpose: Call for the release of journalist Okke Ornstein, while also witnessing the improper legal procedures, lack of due process and human rights violations overseen by Judge Yorlenni Y. Fruto of the First Municipal Court.
Location: Personería, between the DIJ de Ancón and the Ancon Theater Guild in Panama City, Panama.
Date & Time: December 22, 2016 at 8:45 a.m.
Facebook Event page: Say that you’re “Going” even if you can’t be physically present—we want to show that people care and are keeping tabs on the situation
